Get Your RV Winter-Ready: A Checklist for Ozark Canopy Residents

Winter is on its way, and at Ozark Canopy, we want to make sure everyone stays warm, comfortable, and worry-free this season! Whether you're a first-year resident or a seasoned pro, a little prep now goes a long way when the temperatures start to drop. Here's your friendly, no-stress checklist to get your RV ready before the cold hits.
Mark Your Calendar: November 1st Deadline
Before we dive in — circle November 1, 2026 on your calendar! That's the date all residents need to have their winter prep completed. Getting started early means no last-minute scrambles, and trust us — your pipes will thank you.

1. Switch to a Heated Water Hose
A heated water hose is a must-have at Ozark Canopy — and it's actually required for all residents during winter months. Regular hoses freeze up fast, and that means no running water when you need it most. A heated hose keeps things flowing smoothly no matter how cold it gets outside.
Pro tip: Plug it in before the first freeze hits so you're not scrambling at the last minute!

2. Plug In Your Heat Tape
Got exposed pipes running outside your RV? Heat tape is your best friend. Wrap it around any vulnerable pipes and plug it in before temperatures start dropping. This simple step can save you from a very expensive (and very inconvenient) burst pipe situation.

3. Install Approved RV Skirting
RV skirting helps insulate the underside of your home from wind and freezing temperatures — and it makes a huge difference in both comfort and energy costs. At Ozark Canopy, only approved skirting types are permitted, so make sure yours meets community guidelines before installing.
Not sure if your skirting is approved? Reach out to the office and we'll be happy to help!
4. Protect Your RV Pipes
Frozen pipes are one of the most common (and costly) winter RV problems. In addition to heat tape, make sure your pipes are properly insulated. Check for any gaps or exposed areas underneath your RV and seal them up before the cold sets in. A little prevention goes a long way!

5. Install an RV Tank Heater

6. Use Space Heaters Safely
We get it — space heaters are a cozy lifesaver in the winter! But safety first, always. At Ozark Canopy, only space heaters with an automatic shut-off feature are allowed. The Milkhouse-style heater is a popular and approved option that works great in RVs.
Never leave a space heater running unattended, and keep it away from curtains, bedding, and anything flammable. Stay warm AND stay safe!

7. Keep Your Sewer Hose Off the Ground
This one's easy to overlook, but super important! Your sewer hose should never rest directly on the ground during winter months. Use a sewer hose support to keep it elevated and flowing properly. A frozen or cracked sewer hose is not a fun fix. Options like a heated sewer hose cover, a sewer hose kit, or a sewer hose accordion can all help make winter management a breeze.

8. Add Window Insulation
Cold air sneaking in through your windows? A window insulation kit is an inexpensive way to add an extra layer of warmth and cut down on drafts. They're easy to apply, barely noticeable, and can make a real difference in how cozy your RV feels during those chilly nights.
